• Professor Mottola’s Driving MIND Foundation is offering this 24-week Driving MIND Family Roadway Wellness program for adult licensed drivers and for parents of children from infants to teens to eliminate roadway crashes for motorists, bicyclists, e-scooters, pedestrians, and passengers.

Every year in the United States, there are nearly six million roadway crashes, with 84 percent of the motorist crashes involving adult licensed drivers. The only formal training that most adult drivers received was when they were teens preparing to pass a licensing exam. Then, the most crucial skill essential to prevent crashes – space management habits – are sometimes never acquired.

In this program, all family members from the age of four will have the opportunity to learn, practice, and master the habits of Zone Control Strategies and Principles to manage space.

To guide the development of Zone Control Strategies and Principles into habits, you will have access to the Driving MIND In-Car Guides Practice App.

Each week, you will build upon the strategies you previously learned and learn new strategies until space management habits become second nature.

    • Each week, in addition to learning Zone Control Strategies, you will be presented with Challenges where you need to spontaneously respond to the situation, such as this one you just performed. Only you know whether a correct action would have been taken if you were actually in that situation.

    • Because this program is designed to cultivate space-management strategies into habits, it requires practice and repetition to learn new techniques and change old habits.  Practice can best take place when two family members form a Co-Driving team: a parent and a teen, two adults, two siblings, a family member and a friend, or two college or high school students. Team members can learn the Driving MIND eCoach together challenging each other for best performance. In the car shared time practicing the weekly strategies as a driver and co-driver can take place. Learning is self-paced, emphasizing practicing one or two strategies at a time to cultivate them into habits. After adequate practice, the team signs up for a Skid Monster Team Challenge at a Skid Monster Evaluation Center.
